A Mesa voice

As a Mesa parent, I’m asking you not to approve the proposed closure on September 22. I understand that BVSD is facing real enrollment and financial challenges, and I know the Board has difficult decisions ahead. But a permanent decision like closing a neighborhood school should come after there is a clear, districtwide plan and families understand what the alternative will actually look like. Right now, there are still important unanswered questions about consolidation, class sizes, future boundaries, facilities, and what happens to other schools in the years ahead. Once Mesa is closed, that decision will be extremely difficult to undo. I hope you’ll vote no on the current proposal, or at minimum postpone the decision until the Board and the community have the information needed to make it with confidence. Taking more time now is not avoiding a difficult decision. It is making sure that an irreversible one is the right decision.
