What shocked me when I read the details of the plan was how little impact it had toward the stated numeric goals. What shocks and disappoints me even more is that the ultimate goal, which is to create the best learning opportunities for the children in the community, seems to have been completely lost in the shuffle. I grew up in a school system that closed schools only to later need to add portable (i.e. "temporary" buildings that ended up being used for decades) add on buildings to meet fluctuating student numbers. These class rooms were worse all while the closed schools were underutilized in less than optimal uses. Similarly, I have heard of no good plan for how to use the Mesa building if it is closed. Planning for a situation where we are "at capacity" at Bear Creek is a recipe for crowding and poor outcomes. Keeping Mesa open just makes sense and allows the for the flexibility needed to create the best outcomes.
